Dopo “The Silent Chaos”, girato in Congo, ecco “Inner me”, il nuovo documentario diretto da Antonio Spanò e con la sceneggiatura e produzione di Giacomo Spanò. Girato presso la comunità dei sordi del Butembo, Nord Kivu, R.D.Congo.
“Seguendo il vagabondare curioso di una ragazzina tra mercati affollati, mattatoi, fornaci e cacciatori di pipistrelli, incontriamo tre donne; le loro vite narrano la durezza di nascere donna e di essere sorde in una società che è ostile dell’una e dell’altra condizione”.
Le storie di Immaculée, Sylvie e Stuka sono storie di ogni giorno, di quotidiana fatica e di lotta contro soprusi e sopraffazioni.
Ma nella loro condizione di ultime tra gli ultimi, queste donne raccontano, anche e soprattutto, la caparbia volontà di riafferrare ogni mattina i fili incerti del loro destino.
Questa è una nota del regista:
“Inner Me è la nostra voce interiore. Quella voce che è così chiara dentro di noi ma così difficile da esprimere. Dentro ogni essere umano, indipendentemente dalle sue caratteristiche fisiche e caratteriali, risiede la voce del pensiero, l’Inner Me. Comunicare e creare relazioni sono necessità primarie per ognuno di noi; come regista mi sento spinto a raccontare storie che esprimano le sfide e le difficoltà che si compiono nel tentativo di comunicare agli altri il nostro mondo interiore, quello che pensiamo, quello che sentiamo e che desideriamo. Queste battaglie influenzano la nostra relazione con il mondo esterno.I sordi in questo senso diventano il paradigma di quanto sia difficile comunicare il nostro Inner Me.”
Soundrivemotion ha collaborato alla creazione e produzione della colonna sonora e al sound design.
Ha contribuito alla creazione della colonna sonora, il compositore Joe Schievano con vari brani, tra i quali quello di apertura del film.

A short documentary set in Congo, that intimately portrays the struggles of 4 deaf women in the city of Butembo, in North Kivu, DR Congo, a country defined by war. In Congo women’s voices are rarely heard; victims of a systemic rape culture, women often experience oppression, discrimination and abuse.
Being deaf marginalizes a woman even more. Congolese society considers certain kinds of diversity a threat and still believes that disabilities originated from evil spirits cursing a family. Deaf people cannot hear and can’t be heard. They are outcasts in their own home, cut off from communication and society.
Jemima, the story’s little guide takes us through the dusty red roads of Butembo inviting us to witness her world through her own eyes. While following Jemima through crowded markets, slaughterhouses and bat hunting scenes, we encounter 3 other women, Immaculée, Stuka and Sylvie.
This is a note of the film maker:
Inner Me is our inner voice. That voice that is so clear within us, but that we might have difficulties expressing to the world. Within all human beings, regardless of who they are, resides an inner voice. Communication and relationships are primal necessities for all of us, and as a filmmaker I am interested in telling stories about the challenges we all face in revealing to others our world, what we are thinking, what we feel and what we desire. These challenges influence the way we relate to everything around us.Deaf people are the example of the effort it takes to communicate our inner selves.
